Phaña Hatun Karpay

The Great Initiation of the Incas

Peru, 22 August - 1 September, 2024

This is the original Hatun Karpay taught to Andean Master Don Juan Nuñez Del Prado, by his Phaña teacher Don Benito Qoriwaman. The work of the Phaña [P’anya] (or Right Side Path), is to emphasise the rational and cognitive development of Yachay - intellect and knowledge through direct experience and perception. It is a Gnostic tradition that allows the perceiver to get a personal connection to the supernatural. This path provides a training to take care of the personal life-force field - (the Poqpo), based in an intimate and fluid relational exchange, with the external natural and metaphysical energetic environment we call the Kausay Pacha (world of the living energy).

Since 1992, Juan and his son Ivan have been offering this Karpay to invoke the spirit of the new age, raising the levels of human consciousness. This Hatun Karpay (Great initiation) is essentially the basic preparation towards the crowning ritual of a spiritual emperor. It affords participants, the privilege of partaking in the rites of becoming part of the Incan royalty. Each ritual builds on the other with the aim to arrive at the fifth level of consciousness - that of the total healer.

Phaña was the first of three Karpay’s that Juan retrieved from his masters over the course of eleven years. Each of the Karpay’s weave into each other and overlap following the path of the Mystic (Paña - right side); the path of the Enlightened Couple (Chaupi - the middle path); and the Magical (Lloqe - left side path).

Practicing the rituals of the Phaña Karpay has been necessary to activate the power of the Q’enti, (the hummingbird). The Q’enti is a symbol of the Hanaq Pacha (the upper world), represented in the shape of the citadel of Machu Picchu. After 12 years of continuous practice, the power of the hummingbird, was activated. It was then possible to go one step forward, pulling down this power, and awakening the power of the Puma. The Puma is a symbol of the Kay Pacha (this world), represented in the city of Cusco. The next stage was to pull these two powers down to the Ukhu Pacha (the underworld), represented by the symbol of the Anaconda in the Titicaca lake.

Phaña is the Hatun Karpay of Don Benito Qoriwaman, the teacher Don Juan Nuñez Del Prado, who has been very instrumental in spreading Don Benito’s teachings throughout the western world. Don Benito was an Altomishayoq - a high priest of the Right Side of the tradition. He taught specifically Phaña, although we think he would have certainly known and practiced the Middle and Left paths also.

He was from Wassau, a small village on the outskirts of Cusco near the Waskar lake. He lived there with his wife Doña Anati who was also a highly gifted Ñusta Paqo. She was the daughter of Don Benito’s teacher, Don Julian Chayallko, a Q’ero master and Altomishayoq. Doña Anati and Don Benito worked together in their healings evoking both the right (mystical) and left (magical) paths of the tradition to bring wellness to their patients.

Don Benito died in 1987, leaving a legacy of spiritual teachings, practiced widely across the Americas and throughout Europe to this day.

Travel insurance

Since life is not always predictable, we strongly recommend that you take out travel cancellation insurance. Should something change in your life and you can't participate it will in many cases pay the cancellation fees and then save you from the financial consequences.

A few tips: Arrive a couple of days before the course begins, to acclimatise, the altitude can affect people in different ways. The Sacred Valley is at a lower altitude and a great place to start your trip. If you have time, it’s a bonus to take some days for yourself after the course, to be able to play with the practices and maybe even revisit some of the places that we didn’t spend enough time in. Also, make some space in your luggage for your shopping!
