Don Juan talks about Don Benito

Andean Master and professor of anthropology Don Juan Nuñez Del Prado, talks to me about his teacher Don Benito Q'oriwaman. Don Benito was from the village of Wassau (about 20km from Cusco). He was an Altomishayok - the highest level of Andean priest, healer and protector of his village. Juan, who was initially an atheist, became a student of Don Benito in 1979, until his death in 1987. The legacy of Don Benito is evident throughout the Andean world, many Paqo's who follow this tradition would have heard of him through the teachings of Juan and his son Ivan Nuñez Del Prado.

Understanding Ayni

In the Andes there is one “natural law” that comes into play in everything we do, it’s the law of reciprocation. It is a sacred interchange between ourselves and the universe, between ourselves and Pachamama. It is how everything in nature flows, we can see it in the ecosystems in the natural world - every terrain, weather system, plant and animal plays its part in the natural world. If one little thing is out of sync it can create havoc in the whole community of organisms.

Understanding the principles of Ayni, has a ripple effect which spreads and returns to us twofold. Ayni is a tool to improve our wellbeing. Being aware of our actions, our interchanges with each other and the planet, is sacred reciprocity. It can bring us back into Ayni, which can improve all of our lives immeasurably.

Watch to learn more about this simple, yet potent energy exchange.

Wachay - Uncovering Lost Treasures

… I couldn’t feel anymore pain, understanding the ‘why’s was like uncovering treasures on a seabed - flipping shells once used but now vacated, releasing bubbles of trapped air to the surface.
